{"id":78,"date":"2015-06-09T01:32:12","date_gmt":"2015-06-09T05:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unliterate.net\/?p=78"},"modified":"2015-06-09T01:32:12","modified_gmt":"2015-06-09T05:32:12","slug":"doom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unliterate.net\/index.php\/2015\/06\/09\/doom\/","title":{"rendered":"DOOM ]["},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Killing time on beautiful monday night before my tuesday morning work and I realize that my train of &#8220;links&#8221; tonight span 15+ years and\u00a0need mentioning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I was killing 10 minutes in World of Warcraft when I came across a quest to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/quest=36627\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Subdue\u00a06 Clefthoofs&#8221;<\/a>, but there was a counter from 1 to 5. Typical bug that has existed for 6+ months in an MMORPG. I ended up looking this thing up, and while &#8220;Subduing&#8221; you get to use a gun called the\u00a0<em>Blixthraz&#8217;s Frightening Grudgesolver<\/em>, or BFG for short. Long story short, this gun that subdues actually nukifies these Rhino-type mobs, and then the night begins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/quest=36627\/big-frostfire-gun#comments:id=2000349\" target=\"_blank\">comment on Wowhead<\/a> links me to <a href=\"http:\/\/doomwiki.org\/wiki\/BFG9000\" target=\"_blank\">DoomWiki&#8217;s BFG9000 Page<\/a>, which takes me back many, many years. I ended up eating dinner while spending 40 minutes watching a Doom 2 Speedrun:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Doom 2 Speed Run in 0:40:18 by Kubelwagon *Live at Awesome Games Done Quick 2013 [PC]\" width=\"648\" height=\"365\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G44J8MRn35Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So, I ended up attempting to play Doom 2 from my computer, only to be disappointed in the 32\/64 bit issues with the old DOS\/4G program. I fired up Doom95 only to get a stupid DirectX error. Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.overclock.net\/t\/654004\/dplay-dll-fix-win-7-x64\" target=\"_blank\">overclock.net<\/a>\u00a0it was as simple as copying dplayx.dll to dplay.dll in my\u00a0C:\\Windows\\SysWOW64 and i&#8217;m Doomin&#8217; away!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After getting a bit bored of actually playing it and reminiscing too little, too late, I found <a href=\"http:\/\/doomworld.com\/slige\/\" target=\"_blank\">SLIGE<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/rayroy3.tripod.com\/dc\/dc.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Doom][ Control<\/a>\u00a0and kept thinking to myself &#8220;Man, alot of these websites look to be going the way of the Dodo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;m just glad I could walk down memory lane, finding expected dead links and surprising live ones.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Killing time on beautiful monday night before my tuesday morning work and I realize that my train of &#8220;links&#8221; tonight span 15+ years and\u00a0need mentioning.
