I had to dig <em>deep deep<\/em> into my history, since I used to order DVDs from Netflix back in 2006, Rip them, convert them, and then enjoy them later on.<\/p>\n<p>So, fast forward to 2017, from Windows XP to Windows 10, and awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay we go.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Software Needed<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>SmartRipper 2.41<\/p>\n<p><em>Optional<\/em>: VLC Media Player\u00a0from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.videolan.org\">http:\/\/www.videolan.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>flaskmpeg from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flaskmpeg.net\/\">http:\/\/www.flaskmpeg.net\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>XVid codec from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xvid.com\">https:\/\/www.xvid.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (professional) from the Radium MP3 &#8220;copy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>What to do<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Install XVid and the MP3 codec. Fairly straightforward. Without these, you won&#8217;t be able to convert your\u00a0DVD rip to a final copy.<\/li>\n<li>Install SmartRipper and VLC. VLC is <em>only<\/em> used by SmartRipper to help unlock copy-protected DVDs. Since my Wedding DVD wasn&#8217;t copy-protected, I didn&#8217;t really need this step.<\/li>\n<li>Extract flaskmpeg. Works out of the box.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Insert the DVD, run SmartRipper. In SmartRipper, you&#8217;ll need to isolate the actual film you want, make sure all <em>Chapters<\/em> and <em>Cells<\/em> are selected, and Rip. Sit and wait until it&#8217;s done.<\/p>\n<p>Load up\u00a0flaskmpeg, select the .ifo that would contain your DVD. flaskmpeg is smart enough to read it and ask you what you want of it.\u00a0<em>Select Output<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Configure Output Module<\/em> to select the XVid video codec and the MP3 audio codec, and configure as necessary. Once you&#8217;re all configured, FlasK It!.<\/p>\n<p>Without configuring a codec in flask, you&#8217;ll get an uncompressed DVD rip.\u00a0In my initial case, a 1GB MP2 compressed A\/V file was 30GB uncompressed on my hard drive, and a laughable matter.
